
Mas-Wrestling is a kind of Ethnosport also known as Mas-Guresi in Turkey. Its essence consists in pulling off a stick by two athletes. Athletes sit down against each other, their feet about on board and by the command of the referee try to pull over the opponent on his side or to pull out a stick from the opponent’s hands. This sport helps athletes to develop muscles comprehensively and harmoniously as all groups of muscles are involved during their performance. At systematically engaged Mas-Wrestlers is formed the muscular corset which allows them to maintain serious loading’s. Its way of checking of power and endurance of the person exists in the singular in the world as the incredible technique and functionality of work of all groups of muscles is in it.
The modern name of this kind of martial art “Mas” in translation from Yakutia word means “wooden stick” and the term “Wrestling” is derived from English meaning “struggle”. It is a democratic sport as men, women, children and veterans can compete in it. For engaging in Mas-Wrestling the expensive inventory isn’t necessary, and specially equipped sports constructions aren’t also required. It is possible to organize competitions easily in the summer in the open air, and in the winter – on a small platform in any room. Stick-pulling games have been included in the program of the Yakutian Sports Festival in 1932 along with other national sports, In 2000 Mas-Wrestling has been included in the program of the International Sports Games “Children of Asia” which have been patronized by the International Olympic Committee, the World Festival of Youth and Students (Russia), the World Nomad Games, (Kyrgyzstan), the World Ethnosports Games (Turkey), the Arnold Sports Festival (USA) etc. Nowadays Mas-Wrestling is one of the most popular games in the world which about 50 countries play and enjoy.
